As recipient of a “Creative Arts Health Impact” Award, through the 1889 Foundation and Pennsylvania Rural Arts Alliance, in support of our innovative arts programming the Community Arts Center of Cambria County is excited to offer a free series of weekly art classes for Deaf adults as well as a series of Saturday art workshops for Deaf children in our community. The instructor will provide a variety of art making experiences designed to encourage visual self-expression and promote understanding of the unique beauty and challenges of Deaf culture.

Classes will feature a variety of media including some of the following: hand cast sculpture, mask making, silk painting and clay work. These art experiences will be supported by professional ASL interpreters as well as volunteers familiar with Deaf Culture. The adult series is open to those ages 15 and up and will feature a 6-week evening class this fall as well as another 6-week evening series in 2017. The children’s program, open to those ages 8-14, will be featured in a 4-hour Saturday art workshop. A second children’s workshop will follow in 2017. At the conclusion of both programs the Community Arts Center will host an art exhibition of the work created with a public reception to celebrate and share their work with the community.
